Short VS Tall Players - PersuasiveMany people think that in order to be a great basketball player, you must be tall. My question is why? Why should not all short players also be given the opportunities that the tall players are offered? Not only in the NBA, but also in youth basketball, some coaches discriminate athletes because of their height. Throughout my basketball journey, I have always been teased as the ‘little player’. Whenever people would relate my height to how effectively and well I play, I could never explain my answer properly. Shorter players are the floor leaders because they are the ones responsible for dribbling the ball, calling the plays, shooting the ball and making correct passes. Without their accurate passes, taller players would never receive the ball under the hoop. Their constructive opinions and communication skills toward other teammates saves the team from mental and physical breakdowns. Although height can certainly help a basketball team, quickness and endurance are also important factors that mostly reside in shorter players. Shorter players must think fast, run fast, act fast, and have excellent ball-handling skills. Basketball is a sport for athletes of all shapes and sizes. No one should discriminate anyone because of their height.
