Narrative 2 - My Possible ConcussionIt was in the middle of the third quarter of one of my season games, when I quickly stole the ball from the other team. Considering that there was no defensive or offensive players in front of me, I rapidly dribbled the ball up the court and when I was about to begin my lay-up, the ball slipped out of my hands, and made me trip (head first) into the wall. At that moment, a bunch of memories of my previous injuries and concussions instantly began to blind me. I also recalled my mom’s warning: Your next (fourth) concussion will end your basketball life forever. The initial difficulty of hearing, seeing and moving constantly made me believe that I was encountering a very serious head injury for which I may have to quit basketball. It was 20 minutes later when I began feeling much better. After consulting the doctor, I was assured that I was safe from another concussion. The fear of leaving basketball, a sport that I’ve played for as long as I can remember, terrified me. I love the sport but the mental trauma I faced throughout that game is something I never ever want to face again.
